Arte Cardé x Cokí Clik: Jíbaro

Artist: Arte Cardé
From: San Sebastián, Puerto Rico
Medium: Illustration
Pieces: Jíbaro Moderno, Jíbaro Renace
Status: Archive Collaboration, later reimagined

Arte Cardé is a Puerto Rican artist from San Sebastián, Puerto Rico. He is known for his illustration work, especially his portraits and visual interpretations of urban music artists. His style brings together bold character design, cultural references, and a graphic approach that feels modern while still carrying a strong Puerto Rican identity.

For Cokí Clik, Arte Cardé originally collaborated on Jíbaro Moderno, a piece that reimagined the traditional Puerto Rican jíbaro through a more contemporary lens. The design featured a jíbaro dressed in black, holding a guitar, with one foot placed on a skull. It gave a familiar cultural figure a darker, more urban, and more symbolic presence.

Years later, Cokí Clik brought the concept back in a new format under the name Jíbaro Renace. The return of the design gave the piece a second life, connecting the original collaboration to a new chapter in the brand’s creative history.

This collaboration reflects what Cokí Clik often tries to do with Puerto Rican culture: respect the symbols we grew up with, but reinterpret them in a way that feels current. Through Arte Cardé’s artwork, the jíbaro becomes more than a traditional figure. He becomes a character of resistance, memory, music, and identity.
